JailBreak of iOS 6

With the new jailbreak for iOS 6, it’s time to start playing around with all the great apps and tweaks on your newly freed device. Here’s a look at some of our favorites available in Cydia for iOS 6.

Jailbreaking has changed a lot over the years, and while it’s a little less exciting (and arguably less needed) than it used to be, jailbreaking is still a great way to get the apps Apple doesn’t want you to have. It’s not just apps though: jailbreaking is also the best way to quit the Apple ecosystem and get the functionality you want from third party apps and add smaller tweaks. You can get rid of the annoying password request from the App Store, or add push notifications to email apps like Sparrow. For many, solving those annoyances are reason enough to jailbreak.

After a string of failures by jailbreak experts to find a weakness in iOS 6 launched by apple last September, a new team was established earlier this year with combined might of jailbreak community’s most talented developers including Nikias Bassen, David Wang and Cyril. All these experts have been known for producing reliable jailbreaks in the past. This team was assembled in order to develop a reliable un-tethered jailbreak for iOS 6 devices, including the iPhone 5, the iPad mini and the latest-generation iPad. With release of this new jailbreak all iOS devices running iOS 6 can be jailbroken with the exception of Apple TV 3.

iOS 6 was originally released in September of last year which included many many feature upgrades in iOS operating system, including a totally new Maps application, Facebook integration and improvements in Siri, Mail and other built-in apps. Previously only tethered jailbreak for iOS 6 was available that too only for A4 device like iPad 2, and iPhone 4 and the jailbreak process was required to be repeated every time the device underwent a reboot due to low battery or any other reason.

This tool, called Evasi0n is quite user friendly and it only takes 5 minutes to exploit iOS 6. However the developers of this jailbreak have advised users not to update their devices over the air (OTA) and instead use iTunes to update and take full advantage of all the new features of iOS 6.1 with added benefits of jailbreak.
